Corneal ectasia

Occur when the cornea has a progressive thinning and bulging leading to excessive increase its curvature, causing poor vision. In advanced stages the patient may not tolerate optical correction (glasses or even contact lenses). It may need a corneal transplant in very advanced cases.
Among the most important are corneal ectasia in keratoconus, queratoglobo and pellucid marginal degeneration.
The general symptoms are constant itching sensation and dry eye. In advanced stages may worsen symptoms.
There are different treatments depending on the progression of ectasia. The traditional solution has been corneal transplant surgery, and the latest is the introduction of INTACS, crosslinking technique or combination of both.

Keratitis

It is an inflammation of the cornea, which can be due to various causes.
The symptoms usually depends on the type of keratitis are eye pain, dry, sandy sensation, photophobia, red eye, corneal opacity, corneal irritation, foreign body sensation, etc..
In some cases, may be associated with an inflammation of the conjunctiva (conjunctivitis).
These symptoms can appear in varying degrees depending on the cause of keratitis caused from trauma exposure to UV radiation or toxic, infectious keratitis due to bacteria or viruses ...
